National Disability Insurance Scheme
What is the NDIS and NDIS Funding?
As stated on the NDIS website the NDIS is being introduced progressively across all states and territories and will replace state-based funding for disability support.
You can check if the NDIS is in your area here.
NDIS participants are approved for funding which is managed via an NDIS ‘plan’that outlines the participant’s needs, goals, aspirations and disability supports. The plan includes funding for support categories enabling participants or their support coordinators to purchase products and services that assist participants to reach their goals across different areas of their life, such as education, employment, social participation, living arrangements, health and wellbeing.
Further information on the NDIS can be found here.
Registered Providers and Registration Groups/Support Categories
Providers that are registered are approved (under section 70 of the NDIS Act) to be Registered Providers of supports have met requirements regarding qualifications, approvals, experience and capacity for the approved supports.
I am a registered NDIS Provider (Provider No. 4050046022) and am registered to provide Assistive Technology Products for Personal Care and Safety.
You can search for registered NDIS providers here.
Assistive Technology/Core Supports and sensory products
Sensory products are considered to be a type of Assistive Technology however often purchased using Consumables (Core Supports category)-low risk low cost assistive technology because sensory products are considered a support that assists the participant to 'complete activities of daily living and enables them to work towards their goals and meet their objectives'.
Can I purchase sensory products with NDIS funding?
If you are a registered NDIS participant with approved funding, you can use your Consumables or Assistive Technology funding to purchase sensory products in accordance with your needs, that is if it is related to your disability and is considered to be effective and beneficial to you. If required I am able to provide you or your service coordinator/plan manager with research based evidence upon the therapeutic benefits of sensory products thus assisting any funding applications you may need to make.
How to order your sensory product with NDIS funding

1) NDIS/Agency Managed Funding (NDIS will pay your provider directly for these supports)
Add items to your online shopping cart, proceed to checkout, select ‘NDIS Payment (Requires Service Agreement)’ and complete checkout.
I will require you to email me the completed/signed NDIS Service Agreement Form that you downloaded using the above link with a copy of your NDIS plan (optional) to email@example.com. Here you will be required to include the following information:

It is important that you are approved for either Consumables or Assistive Technology funding in order for me to make a service booking via Myplace Provider Portal (formerly NDIS Provider Portal). I will then provide you with updates on the progress of your order.
Please note in some cases you may be required to request that an OT conduct a risk assessment and provide a recommendation to the NDIS for funding in order for the service booking to be accepted for weighted blankets. This is because weighted blankets are considered a level three AT item on the NDIS AT Complexity Level Classification.
2) Intermediaries-Plan Managers/Support Coordinators/Local Area Coordinator
Your plan manager can, if satisfied that the weighted blanket is a reasonable and necessary support for you and that all safety aspects have been considered, purchase a sensory product on your behalf. Once checkout has been completed and a service agreement made, I will be happy to provide any quotes/invoices to your plan manager including receipts for reimbursement of costs.
Just add items to your online shopping cart, proceed to checkout, select ‘NDIS Payment (Requires Service Agreement)’ and complete checkout. I will require you to email me the completed/signed NDIS Service Agreement Form that you downloaded using the above link with a copy of your NDIS plan (optional) to firstname.lastname@example.org.
3) Self-Managed Funding (NDIS will pay you directly for these supports)
If you are satisfied that the weighted blanket is a reasonable and necessary support and that all safety aspects have been considered, you can purchase a weighted blanket from my store and claim the costs back from NDIS.
